Fiddling while Rome burns

Lifted from Attaturk without permission, but I’m guessing it’s OK:

John Boehner: We insist you shoot the American economy in the head.

Barack Obama: How about just in the foot? Okay, okay, both feet, but for now, that’s my final offer. But you guys have to hold the gun.

Harry Reid: Let’s compromise, let’s shoot it in the gut and see what happens.

A reminder that a straight line is actually the shortest distance between two points:

Former President Bill Clinton said if faced with default, he would single-handedly raise the debt ceiling using the 14th Amendment and he’d do it “without hesitation, and force the courts to stop me.”

When the biggest political game-player of all suggests it’s time to stop playing political games, you know you’re way off the reservation. Seriously – what’s the goal here? Protecting the economy, or having another grand “compromise” on the wall?

  1. Obama seems to need/want a grand bargain in the worst way and he may indeed get it.

But he hasn’t tried everything which may be his primary problem.

The only thing he hasn’t done so far is act like a staunch Democrat, and take cuts to key Democratic programs off the table. That might not work either, but we don’t know, because it hasn’t been tried.

  2. The goal is to crash the US economy.

The far-far-right’s long-term plan has always been to ruin the US economy, to eliminate America as a global powerhouse, to impoverish everyone in the US, to eliminate the middle class and make America a two-class nation: a tiny wealthy minority and a huge poor class that fight amongst themselves for one crumb off the tables of the obscenely wealthy.

Just look at the Republican’s record since Reagan was installed as Acting-President, and the Democratic Leadership handed control of the party to the Republicans during Reagan’s administration:

Cutting America’s wages, wiping out collective bargaining to make sure workers have no recourse when their bosses cut their wages and steal their pensions, encouraging companies to leave America in order to impoverish Americans, eliminating taxes on the obscenely wealthy for the specific purpose of reducing American GDP, using the stock market to steal money from the middle class, etc, etc.

The Republicans have not negotiated in good faith since Reagan’s time, every single time the sellout Dems ALWAYS move to the GOP’s demands, the GOP NEVER give up anything, and then when the Dems do sellout their voters, the GOP moves the goal and refuse to close the deal.

Obama is the single biggest sellout Dem, he always caves to the far right and never sides with the Democratic Voter, and he and his staff openly hate everyone to the left of Hillary Clinton (which is to say to the left of moderate Republicans).

The Republicans are openly working to turn the US into a third-world status nation, their actions border on treason.  The Democratic Leadership are working hand-in-glove with theGOP  to get this done before the 2012 elections.  The GOP is not interested in raising the debt limit because their goal is to default on the debt.  The goal of the Democrats is to help the GOP at any cost.

There is no other logical explanation for the actions of the politicians.

  3.      OK, I speak as a mental health practitioner and a mom, and a human being.  There is a lot of tension in the world right now about a lot of things, some very scary things have happened recently which cause us all pause.  Can we try to not publish violent metaphors for awhile, if not forever?  We have freedom of speech, but I bet we are all smart enough to conjure up some clever wordsmithing which does not including guns.  Just a thought.

I  hope the President takes President Clinton’s advice, if we get to that point.  We need somebody to be the grown up.
