Douglas keeps his spokesman and has his elimination too.

(Oh, yuck. These guys are shameless. – promoted by odum)

A zig, a zag, a job title change, some federal stimulus and poof, a raise for one of Governor Jim’s team.Agency of Transportation John Zicconi’s old title of communication director has been “eliminated.” Artfully done and the only loss is a job title. The old job title was unavailable for comment. Douglas said he was proud of the sacrifice that the old title was making for the state in these difficult times.

Spokesman gets new title, $14,000 raise

John Zicconi, the spokesman for the Agency of Transportation, will now be the Director of Planning, Outreach and Community Affairs.”We decided to have me head that division and eliminate the communication director position,” Zicconi said.

The position is gone but the function remains.

Zicconi said Friday he will keep some of his duties as agency spokesman, but also take over many of the functions of Mel Adams, who was the director of policy and planning. Adams is now working on administering federal stimulus money flowing into the state.

Mel Adams, at an earlier Federal Stimulus seminar in March said “. . . that the goal of the federal funds was to create jobs as quickly as possible.”

  1. “. . . that the goal of the federal funds was to create jobs as quickly as possible.” Wow that worked well, not only did Zicconi get a job, he got a $14,000 raise!  What is wrong with this picture?  It seems that the Douglas just wants to keep rubbing it in.  Let us remember in November, 2010!

  2. Jim Douglas is reputed to be a competent administrator, a steady hand at the wheel. But this constant shuffling and promotion of his insiders and butt boys is downright Bushian.

Does anyone ever seriously question the qualifications of these people to do the jobs they’re in? What is there in Zicconi’s background that makes him a capable administrator of stimulus funds? Aside from his ability to dutifully spout the party line, of course. That makes him a good spokesman; it doesn’t give him the chops to effectively administer millions of federal dollars.

I’m not talking politics, I’m talking bottom-line. Can our government really be running efficiently when its top people are unqualified for their jobs? To take a specific example, would National Life take their very able spokesman Chris Graff and put him in charge of mutual funds?

  3. must be a very good bootlicker to be singled out like this by Douglas and Little Sprout. He must know pretty well what the view looks like way up inside.
