This, obviously, should come a a surprise to no one

From the Brattleboro Reformer’s Facebook Feed:

…A federal judge issued an order late Monday prohibiting Vermont from shutting down Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant on March 22, when its state-issued certificate of public good expires.

[…]

On Monday, Murtha issued a follow-up order saying the state can’t try to enforce a closure of the plant over the waste issue until appeals are heard and ruled on by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York.

Maybe if Vermont were to become a corporation, we’d get more respect?

  1. if Vermont didn’t pass poorly constructed, ill conceived, partisan laws, they wouldn’t get overturned so often?

  2. Well, it looks as if we are about to learn what it feels like to be a state that is “occupied”against its will.

No more pretext of “Mr. Nice Guy” from VY.  Talk about a public relations disaster for the nuclear industry as a whole!

What state would ever endorse new construction of a plant after Fukushima and Vermont Yankee?!

  3. The failure is my own?  Because i don’t feel that challenging someone’s argument isn’t a personal attack worthy of banning a participant?  When did the word attack replace the word criticize?

If you can’t stand dialogue that differs from your view, don’t ban the posters, get out of the blog business.  Your threat to ban this person is Stalinesque at best. It makes me sad to be a liberal.

  4. Tom, perhaps it would be helpful if you could tell us where to find you on Google.  I couldn’t find any Tom Brady, nuclear engineer.  Or provide a link to your work.  Since we’re not experts, we’d like to see your credentials, so we know who with whom we are talking.

  5. different forms of trolling. Reiterating & defending trollish commentary which clearly was used solely to insult others is a backhanded form of trolling imho. Insults & rude comments usually the first line of attack when intent is to intimidate & silence. Banned individual clearly intended to invade the community simply b/c he disagrees with the members. Vitriolic comments display hatred & nothing more.

Anyone can read through the archived comments of the offending individual’s account & plainly see the vast majority of comments were intended to detract & derail discussion by injecting invective-laden insults which can end commentary. Once the flamewar starts some simply leave the discussion as it is unpleasant. Majority of forum commenters know what is unacceptable.

  6. Well, perhaps you can provide us with a paper you published or worked on relative to the technicalities everyone’s been trying to get a handle on.

No, I don’t think you are Pat Cashman anymore.  I’d like to think that GMD gets the attention of more than one person from the other sides of the fences.  I hope I’m not wrong.
