One of the Good Ones

“There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there — good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory… Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea — God Bless! Keep a Big Hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.” – Elizabeth Warren

From NECN:

He’s the most popular politician in Massachusetts and for months Republican Senator Scott Brown has been leading the pack of democratic challengers — until Elizabeth Warren arrived on the scene last week.

The latest poll shows Harvard Law Professor Elizabeth Warren with a slight edge over Scott Brown, 46-44 percent.

  1. sounds like worthy successor to Senator Kennedy, and these first polls are a good signs.

Why is it so hard for other Dems to express what she so easily and clearly said?

  2. Oh, I don’t know.  Unlike so many politicians today, she actually articulates the “g” in the gerund: As in marauding and underlying.  I mean: How can you have a winnin’ campaign if you’re usin’ the “g”?  Folk will all go misunderstandin’ what you’re sayin’, especially if you’re not prayin’ to the Lord and thankin’ Him for helpin’ you bringin’ home the bacon.  (That is if you are not unemployed and they haven’t cut off your extended bacon benefits.)

Now, if she starts droppin’ the g, puttin’ on a shirt and tie so she can loosin’ the collar and the tie, and rollin’ up her sleeves, you’ll know she’s gone to the dark side.

  3. with the same message newly reframed and something we are not yet hearing for the 15000th time.

Still, it is great to hear someone educated and involved speak like a Democrat.  Of course, we have a lot of those…… I hope we can count on her to ACT like a DEMOCRAT…

We don’t have a lot of those, unfortunately.

  4. Love to see her beat that phony, brown.  Looks good so far.  Let’s hope that she does not crash and burn like the red sox.
