I have a lot better things to talk about than Tom Salmon but…

…I don’t think I can ignore this.

Salmon gave a very strange, long, and convoluted speech the other day.  It covered his personal history, the fact that he thinks he had five drinks before getting behind the wheel the other night and talks a lot about his military service.  It even included product placement for The Ethan Allen Institute.

There were also some interesting responses to questions:

Salmon defended the pay raises Friday, saying four jobs in the auditor’s office were compressed into three, leaving those employees with more duties but still with salaries less than their predecessors. Salaries and benefits for next year are expected to be 26 percent, or $76,000, less than last year, he said.

How is this different from other state employees?  Lots of positions are being left unfilled and people are just expected to do more work.  Most of these people are not getting raises.  But apparently, Salmon’s office still gets them.

I’m pretty sure I have a problem with that.

  1. Back during the great dithering when no Democrats were running for gov. it was a clever ploy for Democrat Salmon to announce  his run for the office of Auditor at a coffee shop /mini mart at 6:30 in the morning while on the way to work. I think it may prove to be the last clever move he made .His macho egotistical, belligerent and almost desperate sense of mission is troubling. It is no surprise that he would think   HIS people(troops)work harder than others and rightfully deserve more than lesser beings(civilians?)doing other tasks. This attitude has found him a home with the state Republicans as following the DUI Dubie gave him a warm welcome to the party at the Elk’s club last weekend .

As the Vermont New Guy points out.

Oh, the other guy who wasn’t exactly impressive in handling this kerfuffle was Lt. Gov. and Republican gubernatorial candidate-designate Brian Dubie, who had nothing but praise for Salmon at Saturday’s Republican convention. Not a hint that he disapproved of what Salmon had done.

  2. When I read that Salmon hauled staffers in with him to video and document his self-absorbed “apology” I was appalled. Why make these innocent folks party to your own narcissistic “oh, woe is me” press conference?

You’re nothing but a spoiled little child who got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Good luck finding employment when your reign of me ends soon.

I’m guessing more scotch is definately in your future. Much more.

  3. “2 wines, 2 scotches, and a mixed drink in 3 hours… the .086 is somewhat impressive.”

LOL.  Yeah, it was rather impressive.  I wonder if the blood content was even higher than has so far been reported.  Wonder how drunk he was when he went off at the unemployment hearings, yelling at the unemployed to get a new line of work, while happily pocketing his GOP gifts and his high salary that he refused to cut because he thought it was a “gimmick.”  But he takes a cut from Douglas when he lays of workers, expecting the ones that survive to do more for the same pay, while rewarding his “loyalists,” with cushy, high-paying jobs, and generous pay raises.  And notice the man that regales us about “responsibility’ after his DUI is the same man that made some stupendously unresponsible investments that the courts had to order him to re-pay. Yeah, and he is the guy to lecture workers about getting new jobs during a recession that they did not create.

  4. so three people are now dividing 25% of the former work while in the general workeforce there has been greater than a 10% reduction in some offices and the governor was looking for a OVER 6% pay cut for their increase in output…   TOM must also be giving that raise to his friends since no one of the worker bee class is getting more money…

It is also odd that a military man would allow himself to engage in FRATERNIZATION with the troops in that way..sure is a NO NO on a lot of levels…   How can you expect to evaluate the performance of your drinking buddies???
