Job Opening: Long Hours, Heavy Demands, Paycheck Maybe

Here’s some news you don’t want to see when you’re heading into campaign season.  Vermont Press Bureau:

Mike Bertrand ended his short stint as executive director of the Vermont Republican Party last week, departing the post to dedicate more time to his private consulting business.

Bertrand had been on the job for not quite five months, having taken over for Pat McDonald last November. His departure leaves the newly-ensconced VTGOP Chair Jack Lindley with a big vacancy to fill.

Er, make that two vacancies: one in the office, one in the bank.

Bertrand hadn’t been paid since the beginning of the year, according to GOP Chairman Jack Lindley.

Oooh, awkward.

An ebb in fundraising, Lindley said, has temporarily sapped the party’s accounts. Lindley said he intends to deliver Bertrand his back pay, though Bertrand said it really isn’t a big deal.

“An ebb in fundraising” in an election year??? Wow. And here I thought the Republicans were the party of the wealthy.

  1. So we can expect to see a discontinuance of postings perpetuating the inaccurate myth that, in Vermont, the moneyed party is the Republicans when we all know that the big money in Vermont is found predominantly on the side of the Democrats?

  2. The GOP as toast? Don’t believe it. There will be a flood, a tsunami of money from PACs and 501C-4s and 527s to resuscitate the party and finish its re-molding in the national right-wing-crazy style. Not to mention the RNC and the R Govs Assn. If they can find a way to blame the lack of snow this winter and the consequent decrease in revenues from skiers and snowmobilers on teh libruls, that might get them some votes (although, ‘teh libruls’ are the ones talking about trying to reduce the climate change that might be a factor in the too-clement weather). And here, they still have the “Take Back Vermont” core and the homophobes to work with.

Of course, since they’re paying the piper, they’ll call the tune.

Oh, you meant a credible, grownup political party with rational plans for the state’s economy besides nuking queer couples for Christ?

Oh, okay, never mind, you’re right, the “old” GOP – Stafford, Snelling (pere, mere, et fille), Jeffords, et al., is toast, although Snelling fille carries on.

Raise a glass in memory, and gird ears (and loins) for battle with pandering to the point of insanity.
