This just in from the Democratic Governor's Association:
Montpelier - Green Mountain Future, a new independent organization, launched today with a TV campaign to address key policy issues facing Vermont, including the environment, the economy and energy.
The inaugural ad highlights Dubie's stance on the issue of keeping Vermont Yankee open despite major concerns about safety at the nuclear power plant. The ad begins airing today and is endorsed by the Vermont League of Conservation Voters.
"When it comes to Vermont Yankee, there's no question where Vermonters stand: They overwhelming want to protect the health and welfare of our state and, through their legislature, have said 'no' to relicensing the plant," said Todd Bailey, Executive Director of the Vermont League of Conservation Voters. "Brian Dubie supported Vermont Yankee's corporate owners after radioactive material was found in the groundwater. And he stands with them now even after acknowledging that they breached the public's trust with regard to the safe operation of the plant. Brian Dubie is a nice guy but he's got this issue all wrong; it's crucial to protecting our safety and to developing a sustainable energy future that he changes course on Vermont Yankee."
The 30-second TV ad, "Yankee," is running statewide.
"We're excited to support Green Mountain Future," said Ben Metcalf, chief operating officer of the Democratic Governors Association, one of the organizations supporting Green Mountain Future. Metcalf grew up in Randolph, VT. "Green Mountain Future is asking the sort of tough policy questions that deserve answers and we are proud to stand with them."
Green Mountain Future will seek to inform the citizens of Vermont about Dubie's record and views on a number of other important issues. As an independent organization, Green Mountain Future does not and will not coordinate with any candidates or party committees.
If you see this ad running in your area, please let us know. I'd be interested in seeing what their placement's like.
one thing is for sure: we can count on Brian Dubie to choose a corporate agenda over the health and safety of Vermonters put at risk over an aging and dangerous nuclear power plant.
