Charms to soothe the savage breast

I like music.
Music makes me happy. It serves a major function in my life.
Music has a number of utilities. It can draw people in, bring them together, break the ice, release tensions, and make us forget about the dreariness of issues and answers for a time.
One thing I particularly enjoy is what some people like to call "guilty pleasures."
Only thing is... never could figure out why I should feel guilty about them.
I mean, it's not like they disable me from participation in a functioning democracy or anything.
Here's one:

...and I'll put a few more for those who enjoy biting tinfoil on the jump.
Add your own if you're so inclined.

kestrel9000 :: Charms to soothe the savage breast
....and we fell down laughing in the wet grass!

I've heard it all before.

Bring me Southern kisses from your room.

Same song, only different. And first....amirite?

Don't you remember? You told me you loved me, baby....

Just groove.....

I'm just about at the end of my rope.

Be you child or grain of sand, words of wisdom: "YES I CAN."

I used to roll her in the clover. Thank God those days are over.

And all the girls from there to Austin,
Were slippin' away from home and puttin' jewelery in hock

"Peace On Earth" was all it said.

And finally...

if our backs should be against the wall, we'll be together, you and I......

You may now return to the regularly scheduled operation of your functioning democracy.

For the young and old

Makes me want to sing and dance and do all kinds of crazy things
When I listen to the music makes me want to shout Oh Glory Hallelujah
Makes me feel alright in the day or in the night...

-- Paraphrased, Toots & the Maytals

Just finished reading Barbara Ehrenreich's (4.00 / 2)
Dancing in the Streets: A History of Collective Joy wherein she argues that the destruction of festival and carnival traditions in the late Middle Ages was a function of the rise of capitalism and imperialism.  Then centuries of repression of the impulse to collective joy finally cracked with the rock n roll rebellion. Frivolity aint frivolous

The Kinks covered similar ground in their 1967 opus Village Green Preservation Society op cit ibid and stuff like that.

They also covered this song here, but I'll go with the original.

who's gonna be the first to post an ABBA vid? That's the real question here.

You can read JD's latest at five before chaos. Politics. Godlessness. Music. Films of questionable quality. It's all there, folks.

HOLD.THE.PRESSES: Did someone say "ABBA?" (4.00 / 3)

I resemble that remark.  Take a chance on this--

The amazing thing is it ties together both Gubernatorial candidate (4.00 / 2)
diaries from the last couple of days: pop music AND Star Trek.

How is that even possible?

Caoimhin, admit it, you made this video, didn't you?

Beware the Everyday Brutality of the Averted Gaze

Oh crap ... (4.00 / 2)
that was the most god-awful funny musical/star trek clip I've ever seen.

Now ... think about how much time is must have taken to put all those disparate clips together ... somebody had way way way way way way way way too much time on their hands.

But then again if idle hands are the devil's playground, then this is not god-awful ... just godly.

It's over at http://ramabahama.net ... only it's still under construction (but so is the rest of my life)

I loved the string of dating sites that ran along the bottom in Google ads: (4.00 / 1)
 "Christian dating"..."Star Trek dating"..."Geek dating"...

That was pretty funny.
