Peter Freyne

by: odum

Fri Sep 26, 2008 at 08:45:00 AM EDT

Word has been circulating for many days now that former Seven Days columnist Peter Freyne is very ill. Details are sketchy and unconfirmable, but the word is clearly out at this point. We certainly have no interest in compromising Peter's privacy by forwarding unsubstantiated rumors. All of us at GMD, however, very much want to wish him the best and encourage other Vermonters to think of Peter and send him whatever thoughts/prayers/strength you can.

In a very real way, Freyne, through his long-running Seven Days column, is a godfather of Vermont's liberal blogosphere. Best wishes, then, from all your unruly godchildren, Peter. Hang in there and get well soon.

Sláinte mhaith!

I've had some very critical things to say about Peter, but... (4.00 / 1)
...those were political and conflict of interest questions, not personal ones.  Peter's one of the good guys and I wish him well.

I think the heart of Vermont politics goes out to Peter for his charisma, his candor, and his humanity. (4.00 / 1)
I know that mine does.

Best Wishes Peter (4.00 / 1)
Peter said it best in his last Freyneland blog post:

Each day of life is a gift.

It's got to be for a reason, eh?

And it only works best when we realize we're in it together.

That's the only way we'll get this country back on course.

The Bums of Bush Land have taken a very heavy toll, but the times are a-changing.

See ya out there!

Hang in there Peter. We're pullin' for ya.

Sad news indeed (4.00 / 2)
I am certainly saddened to hear this.  I have really been missing his blog over at 7 Days.  I have missed his humor and his spunk.  Best wishes, Peter!

I have missed seeing Peter's blog and also his appearances on Vermont This Week.  I hope he's had a chance to do some of the things he wanted to do since he discontinued his reporting of news.

Peter Freyne seems to be improving (4.00 / 1)
Word is that Peter is making slow but steady improvement. He is very sick, but all of our thoughts and prayers can help.  He won't see a computer in the hospital, but I bet he would love to receive cards with get well wishes at Fletcher Allen Health Care.  It would only take a few minutes to do, but might have more than a few minutes worth of results for Peter.

Just what kind of blogger is he?

Seriously, thanks for the news.

Speaking of sending Peter cards while he is in FAHC ... (0.00 / 0)
FAHC's E-mail a patient service:
http://www.fahc.org/General_Pu...

Send an e-mail message to a patient

We are pleased to provide this on-line service which allows you to send an e-mail message to your family member or friend who is a patient at Fletcher Allen. Encouraging messages can play an important role in a patient's recovery.

How to send an e-mail message

Before you submit your message, please be sure that the PATIENT'S FIRST AND LAST NAME, room number (if known) and the sender's name are included in the e-mail message. Just click on the "Send an e-mail message" icon at the bottom of the page. Type your message and send it. Your message will be sent to Volunteer Services Department to be printed off and addressed to the patient. E-mail messages are not confidential.

E-mail greetings are delivered in the morning and afternoon, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. They are delivered by a volunteer from FAVORS (Fletcher Allen Volunteers Offer Room Service). Messages for patients in our Rehabilitation Unit at the Fanny Allen Campus are delivered via courier. FAVORS is a free service operated by volunteers and funded by the Fletcher Allen Women's Auxiliary. It is provided for the comfort and convenience of patients and their families.

Great idea.  I didn't know about it.  Everybody send best wishes to Peter!

thanks (0.00 / 0)
yeah, I figured there would be some who might not have known that these days many hospitals are offering such services, including some of the smaller general hospitals here and there when they can. I sent my e-mail out this morning after my earlier comment post about the service. he'll probably get it Monday or whenever, if he is still there by then anyway. am hoping he gets a big stack from everyone sending one in from GMD and elsewhere. spread the word!
