An Environmental Double-Header in Montpelier

This ought to be good!

On Wednesday evening in Montpelier, Vermont Conservation Voters and the Vermont Natural Resources Council will present the first comprehensive debates for BOTH parties on environmental issues.

As much of the nation broils in record-breaking heat or grapples with water shortages, the environment is finally recognized by both parties (at least in Vermont) as a topic of public concern.

Congratulations to VCV and VNRC for pulling this thing together. it must have been like herding cats.

Enough said; here are the details:

Montpelier, VT – Vermont Conservation Voters (VCV) and the Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) will co-host a gubernatorial candidate debate on key environmental issues facing the state this Wednesday (6/22) evening in Montpelier. The candidates will be asked to share their environmental priorities and plans for addressing significant issues facing Vermont — including clean energy and climate change, cleaning up Lake Champlain and other waterways, toxic chemical contamination, healthy forests and wildlife, and sustainable communities. With environmental issues of interest to so many Vermonters, and with candidates who will likely provide very different visions for how to tackle these issues, this event should prove interesting and informative for Vermonters heading into the August 9th Primary Election.

  1. Whew!
A bold move for debate shy Phil Scott. Why he’ll be taking questions in an audience full of –perish the thought –environmentalists. What can he possibly hope to gain that he cannot gain by what he’s already doing on his own time?

You know driving his bus around the state with his racing buds.

  2. HaHaHa — good one. Knew before opening comments would be someone doing noogies on Scotts’ head. Is it really debate-shy to avoid braving a pond of pirahnas when he doesn’t have to.

VT is lovely in the spring, pretty sure the others would looove nothing more than
expense-paid tour of the state in a bus-full-o-buds having a fun time with full slate of smiling & waving, glad-handing, baby-kissing, diner-breakfasting, chili-cookoffing, summer barbecueing-yummy!

With fair season on the horizon we ain’t seen nothin yet. Pie bakeoffs, biggest-
pumpkin-judging, tractor pulling, demolition derbys just around a few corners.

Too bad Shummy effed things up so badly Dems need to distance themselves. Poor Sue Minter mentored by Shummy must now give terse I’m-my-own-person, quickly pivoting to next-question-please to the Shummy-baiting.They’ll all need to rehearse this rapid-response & break-dancing routines before it’s done. Would be surprised if Shummy hit the trail.

Beware of Shummy bearing gifts, a masterful trojan-horse whiperer. Accepting Shummys’ vanquishing into his cabinet personally see as another one of many tricks up sleeve. As GMD commenter so brilliantly put it, couldn’t pull his single-payer rabbit out of hat b/c the rabbit was dead.

Placed in a confinement, after acceptance would have been disastrous for both if he wriggled out of the handcuffs by rescinding position. However Scott is on record frankly detailing Shummys typically routine dishonesty.

Shummys just a genteel gangsta, our jails are full of them. Good thing he had a
privileged upbringing. Both on taxpayer dime but here in real-world criminals & crime sprees generally end in 3 hots & a cot. Scott didn’t see he was being shoved into a cell until bars slammed shut. Gives deceptive appearance of Scott tied to unpopular decisions which all leaders make, as in Lismans dishonest disinformational campaign, attempting to tie Scott to Shummy fail. In the words of Eminem Scott was stuck, stoned & snuffed.
    warning explicit:

Really think this a big reason for Scotts pervasive avoidance. Personally suspect he doesn’t want to get dirty til after Labor Day if at all.

    1. Big blue Democratic state, red Republican candidate he better show up at some point. Dick Mazza’s support only goes so far with Democrats.

  3. Will anyone be reporting on the event? Montpelier’s a little far out for me on such short notice. 🙁 I hope someone will ask about carbon taxes (as opposed to the proposed much less effective cap-and-trade.)

  4. I’m sure that, since Anne Galloway is moderating we’ll get a good report on the proceedings.

I can’t be there either, but if you e-mail your question to VCV, VNRC or even VTDigger, I think they might be able to ask it for you.

  5. Digger also could take emailed questions from readers to ask as time permits. Policy of disallowing anonymous posts uniquely positions them to ask on behalf of the already-vetted names.
