Putin Tells Snowden That Russia Doesn’t Do Mass Surveillance

[..[exchange between the young American who has leaked information about U.S. surveillance efforts and the Russian leader came during Putin’s annual appearance on Russian TV in which he takes questions from the public. Snowden, who has been given temporary asylum in Russia, connected via video link and asked Putin: “Does Russia intercept, store or analyze in any way the communications of millions of individuals?”

Putin began his response by telling Snowden that “you are a former agent, a spy. I used to work for an intelligence service [the KGB]. We are going to talk one professional language.”

  1. the tinfoil hatters an apology with the Snowdon revelations. Monday two newspapers, Washington Post & UKs Guardian won a Pulitzer for their stories detailing a massive surveillance program conducted by our government via NSA on US citizens as well as world leaders.

    “We don’t have a mass system of such interception, and according to our law it cannot exist,” the Russian leader responded.

    Well, as NPR’s Tom Gjelten tweets, the bipartisan Center for Strategic & International Studies has now provided “an actual answer” to Snowden’s query.

    Snowdon not buying any of it:

    For his part, Snowden wrote in The Guardian on Friday that Putin’s response was “suspiciously narrow” and that the Russian leader “dodged” the issue of whether a mass surveillance program is morally justified

  3. what a pity, for some reason, it seems like he is really being used by the media. First there is him doing the ridiculous interview wiith Putin on RT , acting more of a straight man to Putin. What did he think he was doing, going to expose Russia and Putin to the world?  Does Snowden think he is so clever that he can dupe Putin to “trap him in a lie?” Doesn’t he know that RT is Putin’s propaganda machine to the world?

    And then, the newspapers he hands the info to win the Pultizer and what’s he get, a web site maintenance job. There is certain things I admire about Snowden but I find it troubling he is currenty living as a self-described indoor cat in Moscow and doing stunts like this. Is he any different than a prisoner held captive who is forced to do ransom demands via video? Sad….
