Deportation? Really?

Here's a light one for the day.

In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre we've seen a nationwide debate about gun control, guns, and their role in American society. One thing we've seen is that the anti-gun-control people see themselves as the true defenders of American liberty. If you listen to them they'll argue that widespread gun ownership is our indispensable bulwark against tyranny.

They also complain about civil libertarians who are strong defenders of the Bill of Rights, but somehow overlook the Second Amendment in our civil libertarian zeal.

So here's what we're hearing today from the anti-gun-control civil libertarians: They don't like what CNN talker Piers Morgan has been saying, so they want to kick him out of the country.

That's right: according to HuffPo, over 30,000 people have signed a petition calling for the deportation of Piers Morgan because he's in favor of gun control.

It demands he be deported immediately for “exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.”

They're calling his support for gun control “a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution”.

Apparently in their view freedom of speech isn't part of the Constitution.

  1. The right of the people to keep and bear any and all kinds of arms, form militia groups, and use said arms and militia groups to preserve and protect this Nation Under God And Under Arms from any and all who would seek to undermine the Will of God and/or the Will of the Gun, including the right of the people to shoot to kill any and all who would support those in their aforesaid undermining, or any and all who are suspect of such support, for the sake of our National Security and because we are just plain tired of having to interpret this Amendment, We, the Congress of the United States of America, hereby say:  “Slap leather, America!”

  2. I should have said “some ant-gun-control people.” I recognize that there are people who value the Second Amendment who don’t all into the extremist, “from my cold, dead hands” category.

  3. Advocates of the 2nd Amendment demand violation of the 1st.  It seems that these folks are of the mind that the Constitution doesn’t apply to non-citizens.

  4. CNN TeeVee host Piers Morgan’s home country has another view on the deportation petition issue. The UK petition to keep him in the US has 600 signatures, lagging for now at least  behind the deportation effort.

The petition is worded less passionately than the one calling for the Briton’s deportation, reading: “We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA. There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment. Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back. Actually there is a third. It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react.”

  5. that most of the petition signers really want him deported because he’s an arrogant pretentous jackass.

Making comments such as ‘constitution & bible are flawed’ will win him few friends & he might just lose alot of the US friends he has, just as any American public figure going to Britain trashing the Queen, monarchy and the like might cause ‘a bit of a row’.

  6. And, as a guest in this country, he is here at our pleasure.  We can kick him out any time we want to.

Interestingly, sentiment back in his home nation seems to be that they don’t want him back in any way, shape or form.  That’s rather telling, eh?

Personally, I think he can make his declaimations just fine from outside U.S. Territorial Waters.  He looks padded enough to float quite well.  And that won’t stop him at all from speaking his mind.

    Ayup.
