Is this a scoop?

I was just wandering around WCAX’s website and came across this little number:

As Vermont Democrats celebrated Election Day victories, Sen. Patrick Leahy told WCAX News he plans to run for re-election.

…”I was in this room two years ago when I won and I expect to be in this room when I win again,” said Leahy, D-Vermont.

There’s not much more to the story than that. But has Leahy said this anywhere before?

His term expires in 2016; he’ll be 76 years old, and I’ve kinda-sorta assumed that he’d bow out and there’d be a Welch/Shumlin battle to replace him. If he does run for his eleventy-billionth term (kidding; it’d only be his EIGHTH), that’d really gum up the works for Vermont’s upwardly mobile Democrats.

  1. this would be a good thing.

It would prevent a food fight while we try to sort out the national economy; and keep Shumlin’s mind on the job at hand, which is actually implementing single payer.

  2. I hope Sen. Leahy hangs on for another term because Vermont can ill afford to lose his seniority on the Senate Approproations Committee. A junior senator from Vermont certainly won’t be able to do now for Vermont what Mr. Leahy can.

  3. Saint Patrick will make every effort to retain his throne in the Senate – until a respirator and heart pump won’t suffice to keep him from broadcasting his (by then, Alzheimer-impaired) socialist mantra from every microphone he can grab hold of. Pat’s only mission is to shove every piece of self-serving socialist “dung” he can through the Washington Legislative sewage system – regardless of size, cost or repulsive stench .

I’m sure the best interest of the Democratic Party, or even his fellow Vermonters, is the least of his concerns.

St. Patty’s only concern is for Patty!

  4. … or Socialism…

    so·cial·ism   [soh-shuh-liz-uhm]

    noun

    1.

a theory or system of social organization  that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

    2.

procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.

    3.

(in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

  5. Maybe following in Dean’s footsteps and circumventing the local avenue by heading to DC in a more direct route??

Maybe after the battle for President starts in 6 months for 2016, His time as chair of the National Governors Assn and history of putting universal coverage healthcare on the map, along with some other Vermont First items we come up with, could be the step up for national recognition??

    Young enough, certainly motivated enough…

Barking up a non existent tree???  Shumlin for VP in 16!!     If JINDAL can be taken seriously, why not?
