Are You Supporting Obama?

According to Mitt Romney,

47% of Obama supporters are dependent on government

.

You know, the stereotype that you are on the dole if you support anyone who is black, is a Democrat, and/or supports any progressive causes like gay marriage, equal rights, equal pay… well you know the negative Republican schtick.

All right, there are 47% who are with him; who are dependent upon government; who believe that they are victims; who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them; who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing – to you-name-it.

New York Daily News shares the story GOP 1% donors want to hear. Priceless…

  1. sound bite really bothers me

the 47% includes the working poor who get the refundable Earned Income Tax Credit; it includes low-income elderly folks who don’t even earn enough to file

moreover, it ignores the fact that all working people are subject to payroll taxes, sales taxes, property taxes (directly or through rent), gas taxes, and so forth

and it’s especially galling when the message comes from a very wealthy person who doesn’t pay his fair share and who is supported by multi-national corporations, some of whom don’t pay taxes but earn billions in profits

we are definitely through the rabbit hole…

  2. Just heard on the radio this morning that Romney “stands by his comment”. But poor Mitt Romney is puzzled by the existence of class war.

Charlie Pierce peeks into the Romney brain so we don’t have to:

This is simply the way the world is. There is himself, Willard Romney, and his perfect family, and his perfect life, and there is The Help and The Help gets drunk on the job, and prunes the shrubbery badly, and pockets the silverware, and makes off with the odd can of salmon out of the pantry.

He is who he is today because his breeding and his genes and his god have arranged him to be through a serious of immutable laws against which only a fool or The Help would presume to argue. He is what his golden life has made him to be, and his golden life was only the bare minimum of that to which god and nature entitled him. To ask him to doubt any of this is to ask him to doubt gravity or the movement of the tides.

  3. picking on the Mitt and the Ann. They had to cash in some of their investments to pay for housing and school! That is way harder to do than working a few jobs and taking on student loan debt (and they would never take on Federally funded student loan debt, right, otherwise they’d be part of the 46%, especially when daddy can write a check for their first house in Boston as grad students…)

We were happy, studying hard. Neither one of us had a job, because Mitt had enough of an investment from stock that we could sell off a little at a time.

“The stock came from Mitt’s father. When he took over American Motors, the stock was worth nothing. But he invested Mitt’s birthday money year to year – it wasn’t much, a few thousand, but he put it into American Motors because he believed in himself. Five years later, stock that had been $6 a share was $96 and Mitt cashed it so we could live and pay for education.

Poor kids, working so hard, hand to mouth, on the verge of financial calamity (not to mention interior decorating calamity with that glued together carpet and saw horse table… not sure i agree with putting the crib up that high though.

We had our first child in that tiny apartment. We couldn’t afford a desk, so we used a door propped on sawhorses in our bedroom. It was a big door, so we could study on it together. And we bought a portable crib, took the legs off and put it on the desk while we studied. I had a baby sitter during class time, but otherwise, I’d hold my son on my lap while I studied.

And look, she had to hold her own kid while she studied. How hard, to be a mom trying to work ones way through school. You’d think she’d be out there connecting with hard working moms everywhere….

  4. Perhaps I and other folks on Social Security should not be allowed to vote, unless we pay a fee.  Yes, he’ll give Americans the choice–Cut off all SS, Meicare/Medicaid, food, housing, fuel and child care assistance, OR, deny all us parasites the vote.  After all, I guess he’s really saying he’s so pissed that all of us will vote for Obama because Obama is ‘buying’ our votes with Social Security, et al.  How the F did this country come to this?  Skinning the poor and working class is the way back to slavery.  Didn’t Bob Dylan note something about that?  And he’s a rich dude.

It is laughable (yet insidiously serious) that a bastard who probably got a refund on his 2009 taxes is saying the poor don’t pay enough for the perks they get.  Only the Rich are supposed to get perks, he’s saying, for they are Our Masters.

Why doesn’t he just come out and say that there should be a Final Solution to the Conspiracy Of The Poor that seeks to ‘plunder’ the Rich.  Give us all the GAS, Mitt.  Heil Halliburton!
